Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology
At St. Bonaventure University, we are
committed to prepare tomorrow's teachers to use technology.
We are committed to ensuring that as preservice teachers, all of our
students develop the skills and the dispositions required for
technology-using educators. We are committed to providing them
with opportunities to learn about how technology can mediate
learning, how it can enhance their own work, and how it can make
learning environments for children more robust.
The
School of Education at St. Bonaventure University was awarded a
PT3
grant in September 1999 to be used over three years
to improve the preparation of pre-service teachers.
This grant was awarded under the U.S. Department of
Educations program Preparing Tomorrows Teachers to Use
Technology.
At SBU, the overarching goal of our
PT3
project is to help
our students become competent, confident technology-using educators. We are:
 |
first and foremost, helping our
preservice teachers learn to use a variety of technologies and
to implement them in appropriate ways in their field work and
student teaching |
 |
working
with our university faculty in the integration of technologies into
courses and assignments, |
 |
establishing
resource centers on campus for learning about and using educational
software and tools, |
 |
working
with our partner schools to increase and improve the infusion of a
variety of technologies in their educational programs, and
|
 |
ensuring
that our SBU students experience learning through and with technology
and that they begin to use technology in their pre-service teaching
experiences. |
We believe that this project will have a
positive effect on the students in our partner schools as our student
tutors, interns and student teachers employ more technologies in their
teaching. We continue to work with school partners from
